My amazing grandmother passed away from Colon Cancer June 8, 2013. It inspired me to watch what I ate and to make others aware of colon cancer. I changed the way I ate and truly try to eat natural, non-preservative food whenever possible now. I don’t want those chemicals and horrible things inside my body anymore.
The Colon Cancer Alliance states the following facts:
Colon cancer is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer and the second leading cause of cancer death in men and women combined in the US. The American Cancer Society estimates that 142,820 people will be diagnosed in 2013 and that 50,830 will die from colon cancer in the United States.
On average, the lifetime risk of developing colon cancer is about one in 20 (5%), however, this varies widely according to individual risk factors.
About 72% of cases arise in the colon and about 28% in the rectum.
I truly want to make others aware of how they can prevent and spread the word and awareness as well. It has inspired me to have a Colon Cancer Fundraiser here in the Chicago area this coming May 18, 2014. If you are interested in sponsoring, donating or coming to the event, please feel free to contact us.
The event will have an amazing red carpet, appetizers, drinks, swag bags, local celebrities and so much more!
